Conditions Of Sale

All of our puppies and older dogs are sold under contract, for both your protection and ours.  Companion puppies are also sold only under AKC limited registration - i.e., any puppies produced by that dog are not eligible for AKC registration, unless the breeder agrees to provide full registration to the owner.  Dogs under limited registration are eligible to be shown in any AKC performance event (field, agility, obedience, tracking), but cannot be shown in the conformation ring.  Companion dogs purchased from Bertschire MUST be spayed or neutered as a condition of sale.

All pups are guaranteed (replacement or refund) for hips, eyes, patellas and elbows, also for sound temperament.  Show quality pups are guaranteed against disqualifying faults.  Puppies are current on vaccinations, wormed and microchipped before going to their new homes.  In any given litter, we will choose the puppy that best suits your family.  Since we have weeks of watching the litter and learning about each individual's personality, this method has been very successful for us, and in over 12 years of breeding, we have not had a dissatisfied customer.

We let our puppies go between 8 weeks and 12 weeks of age.  You will be advised at what age your puppy will be able to go home!

We recommend that all puppies be enrolled in an appropriate obedience class, and we also encourage you to work your puppy in the field once he or she gets a bit older.  Retrievers thrive when they have work to do, and today's dog sports offer a chance to train and run your retriever in the field whether you have the interest to hunt or not.  You will be astounded by your dog's interest in doing what he was bred to do!  The information gathered in a structured training program is also invaluable to a breeder, so we hope you will work your dogs and let us know how they are doing.
