Using One Of Our Stud Dogs

If you are interested in using one of our stud dogs, and plan to breed naturally, here is some information that may be helpful.

When shipping your bitch by air, complimentary airport pick-up and delivery to and from Atlanta Hartsfield airport (ATL) is included in the handling fee.  Note that all air shipping is contingent on appropriate temperatures (85` and lower), so you must be sure that you are fully informed by the airlines as to whether they will accept the dog or not.  Please be sure to check with us and confirm all flight times.  The airport is about 2 hours drive for us one-way, so we need to clear our calendar for that day, and we do our best to cooperate!  We also require that  credit card information be provided for all bitches shipped to us; this number is used to pay for incidentals such as buying additional food (if you wish the bitch to remain on her regular diet) and a new health certificate ($50.00), for the return trip, if necessary.  If a card number is not provided, all outstanding bills must be paid via PayPal before the bitch will be shipped back.

When accompanying your bitch, please plan to join us for field training if you wish.  We have a daily schedule of field work and you are welcome to participate or just observe.

We encourage you to bring your bitch to us as early as practical, unless you are progesterone testing and can pinpoint the exact breeding dates.  While there are "average" ovulation dates, all bitches are not the same and the benefit of having the stud dog tell us if the bitch is receptive can be very useful.  All in-season bitches left in our care are kept in our secure, licensed/inspected commercial kennel for the duration of their stay.  The bitch will be exposed to the stud dog on a daily basis until a tie is achieved; then we will bring the stud dog to the bitch every other day until she is no longer receptive.  We record the breeding dates and provide them to you in writing. 

We do our best to get natural breedings with a tie.  Occasionally we will need to do artificial insemination, and have the supplies and expertise to do this on-site, so no veterinary costs will be incurred.  We achieve 90-95% success using AI's, with normal sized litters (6 - 13 puppies).

In the event that veterinary assistance is needed to complete the breeding, we use a local breeder/vet and all costs are passed on to the bitch owner and must be paid in full at the time the bitch is picked up.  In addition to the stud fee, there is a $200.00 non-refundable handling fee due at the time of the breeding.  This fee applies whether you board your bitch with us, ship frozen/fresh-chilled semen, or bring your bitch as needed for breedings.  The stud fee is a separate charge, and is not due until the pups are 3 weeks old. 

When using frozen or fresh-chilled semen, please follow these guidelines:

We need as much notice of this as possible.  The facility where our frozen semen is stored is not open on weekends, so you MUST inform us no later than noon ET, on Friday in order to insure a timely delivery early the following week.  Fresh-chilled semen requires that we make a visit to our vet, and that will require that we re-arrange our work/training schedule to accommodate you, so plenty of notice is useful for that too!

We do ask that all breeders who use our stud dogs inform us of the whereabouts of the puppies (list of buyers) and also keep us informed of health information, especially of conditions that are not normally tracked on publicly available databases.
